What a listing means

An organisation listed with the status Active has been certified as meeting the interoperability standards of the Velocity Interoperability Network and is entitled to use its key on the Network. Other members may rely on a listing as evidence of certification without further enquiry.

An organisation that is not listed, or whose status is not Active, is not a member of the Network, whatever it may claim.

Before you exchange

Anyone may consult the register, at any time and without charge. It answers one question: whether a named organisation is a member of the Velocity Interoperability Network today, and under which key it exchanges. It speaks as at the day it is read, so a check made last month is not evidence of membership now.

A member that finds an organisation listed with the status Active may exchange with it on the strength of that entry alone, without asking the Registry to confirm it and without enquiring into the organisation's systems. Certification is not, however, a promise that a system will be available or that an exchange will succeed.

  1. From today

    Applications open

    Any organisation constituted under law may apply for certification in writing. No fee is payable for an application, review or request made before 1 January 2027.

  2. 1 January 2027

    Schedule of fees takes effect

    Fees become payable for applications, re-assessments, periodic reviews, changes of key and certified extracts. Consulting a register and confirming a listing remain free.

  3. 15 January 2027

    First quarterly statistical release

    Figures for the quarter from establishment to 31 December 2026: applications received, assessments completed, findings raised and the position of the four registers.

  4. March to June 2027

    First periodic reviews

    The eight listings made at establishment are reviewed against the standards then in force, two in each month and in order of listing. Each organisation is given at least eight weeks' notice.
